The firm
Counsel for matters where the law is genuinely contested
Natosmal & Bhatara Advocates was established in Jakarta in 2025 by Erwin Natosmal Oemar and Bhatara Ibnu Reza. Both partners came to private practice from a different route than most: years of legal research, policy reform work and public interest litigation before Indonesia's courts and constitutional institutions.
That background shapes how we work. We take on matters where the governing rule is unsettled, where the facts are politically sensitive, or where a client needs an argument built from first principles rather than pulled from a precedent bank.
Expertise
Where we practise

- 03
Constitutional & Administrative Law
Challenges to statutes and state action before the Constitutional Court and the administrative courts.
- 04

Our people
The founding partners
A litigator-researcher and an academic-practitioner, both with long records in Indonesia's legal reform and human rights community.
How we work
Three commitments we hold to on every matter
Research-led argument
Every position we advance is built on primary sources — statutes, travaux, comparative authority and the court's own reasoning. We would rather find the argument nobody has made than repeat one that has already failed.
Candid assessment
You will hear our honest reading of your prospects at the outset, including when the answer is that litigation is the wrong instrument. Clients make better decisions when counsel is willing to say so.
Partner-led throughout
The partners who take your instructions are the ones who draft the submissions and appear in the hearing. Matters are not passed down once the engagement is signed.
Bring us the question that does not have an easy answer
Initial consultations are confidential and without obligation. Tell us what you are facing and we will tell you plainly whether we are the right firm for it.
